Roads are being built for cars to ply but are we also giving the vehicles enough space to park? While residential projects still escape with designated parking, the real problem lie with commercial spaces - many a time which is [...]

2012-02-10T11:18:38+00:00

India is well on its way to create a world-class MRT system as an integral part of community infrastructure development in the country, reports Ar. Apurva Bose Dutta. Growing cities, growing population and growing traffic has invariably called for a shift from private modes of conveyance to public transport. A glance at the world's developing nations indicates that well planned Mass Rapid Transit Systems (MRTS) exist successfully. India (like many other developing countries) however has lagged behind though its first metro, the Kolkata Metro, started working almost 25 years ago. The reasons could be attributed to lack of funds planning as is [...]

He said recommendations of the commission would be implemented as per government wish.  It would be implemented based on the financial condition of the government. If that is not implemented then it cannot be said as against constitution. The [...]

2012-02-08T13:16:46+00:00

The waterproofing of buildings to prevent the ingress of water is an activity, which, perhaps is practiced in one form or the other, ever since the first building was built on earth. The methodology has been changing with the changes in architectural designs and availability of different building materials for construction. In the initial stages when stone was the main building construction material placed in position with mud or lime mortar, the emphasis used was to make the construction in such a way that the rainwater does not collect on the roofs. How different taxpayers can distribute tax-saving investments

2012-02-07T12:22:29+00:00

Younger investor A younger investor can consider equity-linked savings schemes (ELSS) as a means to invest in equities. These tax-saving plans are just like any diversified equity fund. If you have EPF and invest in infra bonds, you don't need any more debt in the portfolio.  Put the remaining limit of your Section 80C investments in ELSS funds. Don't get lured by the high returns offered by five-year bank fixed deposits (FDs). In three years, the ELSS is likely to give you higher returns than the FD.  Tax payer with loans  It seems the taxman has a soft corner for borrowers. A taxpayer who has taken a home loan will find utilising [...]
